The appellate court found that the district court sufficiently explained its decision by acknowledging Gomez’s arguments regarding his mother’s health and his positive prison record, noting that a lengthy explanation was not required when the context and record reflect that the sentencing judge considered the defendant’s substantive arguments and offered a reasoned basis for the decision.
