CC holds on, avoids the upset in OT; Series splits aplenty around the country - CHS 2-15-25

It’s the #CollegeHockey Scoreboard Show for February 15, 2025. Roads were plowed, ice was resurfaced and pucks were dropped. We’ve got the women’s season starting to wind down with just a couple weeks left on the men’s side as well. We’ve got conference champions, championship races, but never any breakdowns, never any analysis, but always Just. The. Scores. No. 1 Boston College bounced back to salvage a weekend split with No. 16 UMass, winning 4-1 behind goals from four different players, including Ryan Leonard’s empty-netter for his 25th of the season. No. 3 Western Michigan dominated No. 20 Omaha 6-1 to complete the sweep, extending its NCHC lead to five points with two games in hand. No. 12 Michigan took four of six points from No. 4 Minnesota at Yost, winning the shootout after a 2-2 tie. No. 5 Maine stayed tied with BC atop Hockey East after erupting for four third-period goals in a 5-2 win over New Hampshire. No. 17 North Dakota earned a big 3-1 win at No. 6 Denver, moving a point ahead of the Pioneers for fourth place in the NCHC behind goals from Dylan James and Cameron Berg. No. 9 Boston University shut out No. 7 Providence 3-0 to split their weekend series, with Mikhail Yegorov stopping 30 shots for the clean sheet. Damien Carfagna’s late goal lifted No. 8 Ohio State past Wisconsin 4-2, while No. 10 Arizona State skated to a 3-3 tie with Minnesota-Duluth but secured the extra NCHC point in the shootout. No. 13 UMass Lowell forced a weekend split with Northeastern by winning 3-1 on the road. No. 15 Quinnipiac maintained its ECAC lead with a 6-2 win over RPI, with six different Bobcats lighting the lamp. No. 18 Penn State continued its hot streak, improving to 8-1-1 in its last 10 after a 3-2 win over Notre Dame. No. 19 Colorado College avoided an upset by salvaging a 5-4 OT win over Miami, overcoming a blown 4-1 lead as the RedHawks dropped their 20th straight. In Atlantic Hockey, RIT won a shootout over American International after a 3-3 tie, Army West Point did the same against Air Force after a 4-4 draw, Canisius defeated Bentley 5-3, and Shane Ott scored the OT game-winner in Niagara’s 2-1 win over Robert Morris. Lake Superior State downed Ferris State 5-3 in the CCHA, while Michigan Tech won a shootout after tying Augustana 4-4. Brown knocked off Colgate 6-3, Cornell edged Yale 5-3, and St. Lawrence got a 3-2 OT win over Dartmouth with Greg LaPointe netting his 10th of the year for the winner. Clarkson rolled past Harvard 6-0, Union put up seven in a 7-4 win over Princeton, and Merrimack edged Vermont 4-3. In non-conference play, Lindenwood topped Alaska 5-2, while LIU handled Alaska-Anchorage 4-2.To the women!No. 3 Minnesota rallied past No. 11 St. Cloud State with third-period goals from Audrey Wethington and Emma Conner to secure a 2-1 win and split their home-and-home series. In the ECAC, No. 4 Cornell and Yale skated to a 1-1 tie, with Yale taking the shootout. Cornell closes its regular season with 45 points after locking up the ECAC regular-season title on Friday. No. 5 Colgate finished second in the ECAC standings, wrapping up its schedule with a 3-1 win over Brown as Emma Pais scored twice to bring her season total to 17 goals. No. 6 Minnesota-Duluth swept Minnesota State with a 4-1 win, powered by two goals from Olivia Mobley, her 16th of the year. The Bulldogs sit three points behind Minnesota for third place in the WCHA, setting up a crucial matchup between the two next week in Minneapolis. Minnesota still has a shot at second place, while Duluth needs help from St. Cloud State in its finale against Ohio State to have any chance at moving up even further. No. 7 St. Lawrence rolled past Harvard 6-2 with six different goal scorers, including Abby Hustler, who notched her 14th of the season. No. 10 Clarkson peppered Dartmouth with 51 shots in a dominant 4-1 win. In Atlantic Hockey, No. 9 Penn State set a new program record with its 28th win, as Leah Stecker netted the overtime game-winner in a 2-1 win over RIT. Providence stormed back with three third-period goals to knock off No. 14 UConn 4-2, with Audrey Knapp scoring her 19th for the Friars. No. 10 Quinnipiac closed out its schedule with a 3-1 win over Union, sitting right on the cutline at ninth in the women’s Pairwise rankings. RPI edged No. 12 Princeton 4-3, while New Hampshire secured the extra point in a 2-2 tie and shootout win over No. 13 Boston University. BU still leads Hockey East by five points and will face UConn next week to decide the regular-season title. Elsewhere, Lindenwood handled Robert Morris 6-2, Syracuse topped Mercyhurst 4-2, Maine shut out Merrimack 3-0, and Holy Cross edged Vermont 1-0. In NEWHA action, Franklin Pierce blanked Sacred Heart 2-0, Stonehill and St. Anselm tied 4-4 before Stonehill won in the shootout, and Assumption defeated St. Michael’s 4-1. St. Thomas wrapped up the WCHA slate with a 4-3 win over Bemidji State. I’m Jason Bryant (@jasonmbryant).
