Monday night was of the chain here in Denver. Michelle Obama, Senator Edward Kennedy were the key speakers. I have included my report for the LaVida News of Tarrant County in the podcast and my interview with the Hon. Rafeal Anchia. Denver- It’s Convention time in the state of Colorado and delegates, elected officials, protesters and the media have arrived in Denver. On Monday night former President Jimmy Carter, Senator Edward Kennedy address the convention to ask the party to support Senator Barack Obama as the next President of the United States. “Nothing - nothing - is going to keep me away from this special gathering tonight," said Kennedy, who is suffering from brain cancer and has not made a public appearance since July. He returned to the Senate then to break a Republican filibuster on a health care issue. Senators on both sides of the aisle rose to honor him. Kennedy received one the loudest roars from the crowd Monday when he said, "I pledge to you I will be there next January on the floor of the U.S. Senate." This country needs to restore its future, to arise to its best ideals, to elect Barack Obama president of the United States, Now let’s talk about Michelle Obama, who could become the first African-American first lady in January, tonight gave a personal and sentimental account of life with her husband in a primetime speech intended to bring his narrative into the homes of millions of American voters. In her first major speech since Barack Obama launched his presidential campaign 20 months ago, she was loudly welcomed by the 4,000-plus delegates at the Democratic convention in Denver waving "Michelle" banners. She went on to speak about Obama as a husband and father who lived his life imbued with American values. One of the biggest cheers of the night came when she offered an olive branch to the Clinton camp, praising her for her success in advancing the women's movement. Clinton had "put those 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling so that our daughters and sons can dream a little bigger and aim a little higher". Meanwhile Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama are working on a deal to give her some votes in the roll call for the Democratic presidential nomination, but quickly end the divided balloting in unanimous consent for Obama. Democratic officials involved in the negotiations said the idea is that at the start of the state-by-state vote for the presidential nomination Wednesday night, delegates would cast their votes for Clinton or Obama. But the voting would be cut off after a couple of states, the officials said, perhaps ending with New York, when Clinton herself would call for unanimous backing for Obama from the convention floor. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity while the deal was being finalized. Many of those delegates, she told reporters on Monday, will likely vote for him. Others, she said, "feel an obligation to the people who sent them here that they were elected to represent." Clinton said part of her job at the convention will be letting those delegates know "that however they decide to vote, we will all be united behind Senator Obama." "There is no doubt in anyone's mind that this is Barack Obama's convention," she said, adding that it is only natural for there to be some lingering issues to resolve after a tough primary. "It would have been the same way if I had won and Barack was here supporting the unity of the party," she said. "This was a hard-fought campaign and there was a lot of intensity and passion associated with it, in part because of the historic nature of our two candidacies." Clinton gives a prime-time convention speech Tuesday night, and the following day will gather her delegates together and publicly release them and urge them to support Obama. Also on Wednesday night Senator Joe Biden of Delaware, Obama's vice presidential pick, will be the featured messenger of a program titled 'Securing America's Future.' Convention officials say they've lined up 'voices who share Barack Obama's vision of making America stronger and safer.' The night's message will be crafted around Obama's plan for 'a new tough, foreign policy approach that is neither Republican nor Democratic. Finally on Thursday evening everything will move outdoors to Invesco Field, where 75,000 are expected to hear Obama's acceptance speech. 'Have no doubt,' said Leah Daughtry, the convention's CEO, 'every seat will be a great seat as we listen to Barack Obama communicate the urgency of the moment, highlight the challenges Americans are facing and call on Americans to come together to change the course of our nation. Oscar winner and former “American Idol” contestant Jennifer Hudson will sing at the Democratic National Convention at the request of Barack Obama. A 'unity breakfast' marking the 45th anniversary of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s 'I Have a Dream' speech in Washington. Speakers will include the Rev. Al Sharpton, Rabbi Jack Moline of Alexandria, Va., (and No. 3 on Newsweek's 2008 list of the 'top 25 pulpit rabbis in America') and Sister Simone Campbell.
