Thelma Wells "Don't give in God wants you to win"
I'm very honored to have Ms Thelma Wells on my show here at Rejoice Musical Soul Food. Ms. Wells is preparing for her conference during the month of May in Garland, Texas. Here is some general infomation on Thelma Wells. Be sure to visit her website for more information. From times of singing in a dark closet to the founding of a national women’s mentoring ministry, Thelma Wells' life has been a courageous journey of faith. The name on her birth certificate read simply: Baby Girl Morris. Thelma’s mother was a severely deformed teenager with no husband and no place to go, since her own abusive mother insisted that she take the baby and leave the house. So when the baby was born, her unwed teenage mother found work as a maid cleaning “the big house” while living with her baby daughter in servants’ quarters. Eventually, the baby went to live with her great-grandparents, who called her Thelma Louise Smith and loved her dearly. They took little Thelma to church, where she learned to love the hymns and praise songs. On those occasions when Thelma was taken to her grandparents’ home, her grandmother abused her, just as she had tormented Thelma’s mother. She was locked in a dark, smelly, insect-infested closet until just before her grandfather came home when her grandmother would bring her out of the closet, clean her up, and act as if all was well. In spite of her deep fear, little Thelma spent her time in the closet singing every hymn and praise song she could remember. She would sing herself to sleep in that closet, and the Lord received this little girl’s innocent praise and rewarded it with an abundant life of joy, protecting her from feelings of anger or bitterness. Thelma grew up to become a trailblazer for black women, a prominent international speaker and author, and a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. As a student at North Texas State University in Denton, Texas (now the University of North Texas), she was a member of the first group of girls to integrate the school’s dormitories. She earned her Bachelor’s degree there and eventually received a Master’s of Ministry from Master’s International School of Divinity in Evansville, Indiana. In 2002 she became the school’s first black female professor. In 1980 Thelma became the first black woman in the South to organize her own international speaking and consulting corporation. Her natural talent for public speaking and storytelling attracted the attention of the Women of Faith Tour, and in 1996 she became the first black core speaker for the organization. She has authored several books, including her latest God Is Not Through With Me Yet, an inspiring examination of her own life experiences in which she encourages readers to “sing in the closets of their lives.” She serves as the president of The Daughters of Zion Leadership Mentoring Program, an organization she founded in 2000 (another first for a black woman). Through this ministry, “Mama T,” as she is affectionately called, has mentored over 100 spiritual daughters, received an honorary doctorate degree and was ordained into the Christian Ministry on December 16, 2008, from St. Thomas Christian College and Theological Seminary and the Association of Christian Churches in Jacksonville, Florida. She was also was named Extraordinary Woman of the Year 2008 by Mrs. Julie Clinton, Host of the Extraordinary Women Conferences an affiliate of the American Association of Christian Counselors. Thelma has been married to George Wells, her best friend, supporter, and encourager, for over 45 years. The couple lives in Dallas, Texas, and has three children, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Troy Sneed Latest project in Due Season
Troy Sneed has done it again and this song is awesome. The year of 2007 is beginning as nicely for Troy Sneed as 2006 ended. The energetic singer is enjoying his first Top 5 Billboard Hot Gospel song as a soloist with the rousing praise tune, “Hallelujah.” The song is the lead single from Sneed’s latest cd, “In His Presence” (Emtro Gospel) which is currently #31 on Soundscan’s praise and worship album sales chart. Meanwhile, Sneed has also netted his first Soul Train Music Award nomination for Youth for Christ’s 2006 smash, “The Struggle is Over.” The song, written by Jonathan Nelson & Justin Savage, spent a dozen weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart last year and also won a Stellar Award as Best Children’s Recording of the Year. Sneed and Nelson lead the song with backing by a choir of youth hailing from the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. region. It is nominated alongside tunes by Kirk Franklin, the Caravans and Bishop G.E. Patterson. The awards will be announced March 10, 2007 at a ceremony at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium outside of Hollywood, CA. Meanwhile it is my prayer that you will be bless by his latest project featuring the new single "With you Always" God Bless, Cedric Bailey Afternoon Host "Rejoice Musical Soul Food" www.musicalsoulfood.com 2pm est to 7pm

“2009 How Sweet the Sound Seeks America’s Best Church Choir”
2009 HOW SWEET THE SOUND™ SEEKS AMERICA’S BEST CHURCH CHOIR Radio Interview with Cedric Bailey on "Rejoice Musical Soul Food" Grammy-winning producer, composer and recording artist Donald Lawrence is one of the most influential figures in modern gospel music. After a stint as music director for soul legend Stephanie Mills, Lawrence made a splash in the gospel world by reshaping the regional Tri-City Singers in the 1990s and transforming them into an internationally acclaimed choir. As a producer, Lawrence has collaborated with artists as diverse as Mary J. Blige and jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis, Hezekiah Walker and the legendary Clark Sisters. Now, Lawrence is producing himself again (along with Daniel Weatherspoon) for his sophomore solo CD The Law of Confession Part 1 (Quiet Water/ Zomba Gospel). Inspired by the forthcoming book “The Law of Confession” by Bill Winston (Lawrence’s pastor at Chicago’s Living Word Christian Center), Lawrence has crafted an epic recording that revolves around a simple Biblical tenet. “A law is simply a principle, based on the predictable consequence of an act,” Lawrence says. “Confession in the Greek language is homo-logeo which means to say what has been said. There is a spiritual law for confession: you just say what God has already said...`Speak The Word.’” Lawrence and his ten-plus member backing ensemble, The Co. (which backed him on his Grammy-nominated 2004 I Speak Life solo CD debut), create a warmly engaging atmosphere on this stellar project. “I picked lead singers based on the feel and color of the song,” he opines. “Since I've worked with so many singers and I believe some of the best singers on this planet - I'm extremely picky when it comes to lead vocals. They must have a lot of heart!” The new incarnation of The Co. features such notables as Dewayne Woods (who won the Stellar Award for Best New Artist of the Year in 2008 following his smash hit “Let Go, Let God”), the effervescent Kim McFarland-Anderson, the dynamic Jason Nelson and Latrice Pace of the Anointed Pace Sisters. The group is rounded out with Lisa Jones, Tobbi White-Darks, Tommie White, Dawn Jordan, Blanche McAllister-Dykes, Anita Wilson, Michael Smith, and Floyd Wilkinson. The Co. is comprised of some of the industry’s best singers that Lawrence has met since moving to Chicago in 2001 and those he’s known since his days in North Carolina. The Charlotte native was raised by a church-going aunt in Gastonia where he sang in the Mills Chapel Fire Baptized Holiness Church’s choir. He grew up on the music of gospel icons like Thomas Whitfield. A self taught pianist and organist, Lawrence began writing songs at the age of sixteen. He put himself through the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and was staging plays such as “Sing Hallelujah” (which opened at New York’s storied Village Gate) when R&B star Stephanie Mils tapped him as her music director circa 1989. Aside from his duties with Mills, he was a member of an inspirational R&B group, The Company. Their single “Angel” was an R&B hit in 1993, the same year that Lawrence produced the first Tri-City Singers album, From A Songwriter’s Point of View. Lawrence had been feeding his songs to the Tri-City Singers (comprised of singers from the Carolina cities of Charlotte, Gastonia and Spartanburg) through his pal Richard Odom, who was a member of the choir. The choir’s members enjoyed the songs so much that Lawrence was eventually asked to shepherd the group. Over the next fifteen years, Lawrence guided the choir into superstar status in the gospel world with hits such as “The Best is Yet to Come”, “Encourage Yourself” and “The Blessing of Abraham” which was #1 on the Radio & Records gospel chart for a then-record breaking 18 weeks in 2005. After a very successful Finale CD/DVD release and farewell concert tour with the Tri-City Singers, Lawrence retired from the group in 2007 to focus on personal and solo pursuits. Get Ready for How Sweet the Sound 2009 Registration for How Sweet the Sound 2009 will begin April 1st. Once you've registered your choir, you’ll need to submit a video of no longer than three minutes in DVD, Mini DV, VHS format, or upload online. Once our judges have chosen the top 16 choirs, invite your community to logon to www.howsweetthesound.com to vote for their favorites. Four category winners will then be chosen in each of the two designated categories: · Few Voices: 1 - 35 Performers on stage · Many Voices: 36 - 100 Performers on stage These eight choirs will go on to perform in the live regional event. From these eight, two winners, one from each category, will win $10,000 for their choir. One overall winner will win a Verizon Wireless handset and $50 gift card for each choir member and will then perform at the grand finale event where they can win up to $25,000. Finally, a Verizon Wireless V CAST People’s Choice Award will be given to the choir who really captures the heart of the community. They will win $5,000. Be a Part of the Celebration Gospel music has joined communities together for generations. And community is at the root of our How Sweet the Sound celebration. Without our talented choirs and enthusiastic crowds, our unbelievable experience in 2008 would never have happened. But, we also know that community is more than just music. This is why we ask you to join us in helping collect phones for victims of domestic violence, and help us celebrate the art community with our community art program. And as an added bonus, sing your heart out at our gospel karaoke booth available at all of our events. Old Phones = New Hope Almost everybody has at least one mobile phone they’re no longer using. So we ask you to gather up that phone and bring it with you to your city’s How Sweet the Sound event. There, you can drop off your old wireless phone, battery and accessories in support of our Hopeline Charity Program. And then you can go enjoy the How Sweet the Sound concert knowing that women and children all over the country are benefiting from your generous donation. Gospel Karaoke Want to sing, but don’t want to sing in front of ten thousand people? Then step right up to our Gospel Karaoke stage and sing for a smaller crowd. Our Gospel Karaoke booth will be available at every concert, so we invite you to stop by and check it out. Who knows, maybe your performance will make it on to our website for you to enjoy again and again

Evelyn Turrentine Agee on the Never would have made it without you Tour
Hey Gospel Fans she is coming to the DFW Metroplex this weekend. Evelyn Turrentine-Agee and she is back! Also known as Gods Woman, EVELYNs brand new album GO THROUGH has just been released on LIGHT RECORDS. Produced by the talented ASAPH WARD (Twinkie Clark, Kim Burrell, Virtue), its the follow-up to the Stellar-Award nominated Its Already Done. I wanted this record to demonstrate that while I am a quartet singer, Im more than just that, says Evelyn. It was my desire to have this project demonstrate some versatility in my ministry. Her favorite, I Am Yours is her self-proclaimed love song featuring a duet with Bishop Neal Robinson. It is my _expression to God, emotionally stated by Evelyn, I am giving him all I have for all he has done. Other soon-to-be classics include of course the title track Go Through and Thank You; a new song, new version of the praise phrase. For her fans, they can never get enough of this so Evelyn has determined to have a new song and version of thank you appear on every album of her career. Evelyn is a native of St. Louis, Missouri now living in Detroit, Michigan. This energetic, multifaceted lady wears many hats daily. She is a wife, mother (11), grandmother (50+), great-grandmother (2), homemaker, business owner and operator, evangelist, and recording artist who spends much time attending to her elderly parents. She manages her own career and spends many hours ministering to and praying for family members and others daily. Evelyn is no stranger to gospel music as she has been singing all her life. She recorded with local groups and as a solo artist on major label compilation projects as well as her own solo album on CGI Records. After 11 years of being absent from the major gospel music scene, in January, 2000 Evelyn launched a new record project, God Did It, featuring the group she founded in 1972, The Warriors. God Did It, released on Evelyns own label, WOS Records, has ministered to all, young and old. Since its release, God Did It has been among one of the top requested songs on radio stations throughout the US and also receiving major rotation on top syndicated programs including Walt Baby Loves Gospel Traxx, Inspirations Across America, the Russ Parr Show, the Tom Joiner Show, Sheridan Gospel Networks The Light, ABC Radio Networks Rejoice, and Radio One Gospel Network. The full-length album, God Did It, has also experienced great success at retail charting on Billboard Magazines Top Gospel Album charts for over 30 weeks. Gospel media has not missed out on God Did It phenomena. Publications and columns such as Gospel Truth Magazine, D. Blackmons Gospel Insider, Urban Network Magazine, Billboard Magazines Inside the Spirit, Gospel Today, Gospel Industry Today, Behind the Scene and Urban Networks Inspired magazines have all given recognition to this anointed, talented woman of God and her music ministry. In October, 2002 Evelyn joined the Atlanta International Records (AIR Gospel) family and released her freshman project with that company, Its Already Done. In June of 2004 Evelyn signed and became a member of the Compendia Music Group..Light Records roster with her first record release Go Through in March, 2005. As a result of the success of God Did It, requests for Evelyn at concerts, revivals, conventions, television shows, and conferences have been staggering. Evelyn has not wavered in her commitment to spread Gods word with the opportunity His favor has given her by sometimes making over 5 personal appearances weekly and practically non-stop. Whenever Evelyn is asked how she has been able to achieve such instant recognition after being away from gospel music for over 11 years, she will simply reply, GOD DID IT. -more- 2004 Stellar Awards Recipient Traditional Female Vocalist of the Year 2003 American Gospel Quartet Convention Favorite Female Vocalist 2003 Stellar Awards Nominee Traditional Female Vocalist of the Year 2002 Gospel Insider Awards Nominee Traditional Female Vocalist and CD of the Year 2002 Stellar Awards Nominee Traditional Female Vocalist and CD of the Year 2002 GTM Awards Favorite Female Quartet 2002 Spirit of Detroit Award 2002 Key to the City, Pinebluff, Arkansas 2002 BMI Performing Rights Administration Award Most Performed Urban Gospel Song for 2001 (God Did It) 2002 NAGPM Gold Cup Award Female Gospel Artist of the Year 2002 American Gospel Quartet Convention St. Louis Chapter Achievement Award 2001 Soul Train Lady of Soul Award Nominee 2001 NAGPM (Natl Assoc. of Gospel Promoters and Mgrs.) The 24th Annual Stellar Awards report with Jonathan Nelson
Jonathan Nelson picked up 3 Stellar Awards in Nashville at the 24th Annual Stellar Awards. We had a chance to talk with Mr. Nelson about his experience. Singer and worship leader Marvin Sapp was the night's big winner at the 24th Stellar Gospel Music Awards, held Saturday night at the Grand Ole Opry House. Sapp, riding a wave of success due to his crossover R&B hit "Never Would Have Made It" and album Thirsty, took home statuettes in seven artist, song and project categories, including the night's biggest honor, artist of the year Gospel pioneer Dr. Bobby Jones, who was on hand to present the Legend Award that bears his name to the veteran Rance Allen Group, said Sapp's dominance on the gospel scene this year was long overdue. Notables from the mainstream entertainment world — including co-host/comedian Sinbad, The View co-host Sherri Shepherd, rising R&B superstar Mario and Sheryl Lee Ralph — appeared alongside gospel stars such as co-hosts Donnie McClurkin and female vocalist winner Dorinda Clark-Cole, Fort Worth’s Kirk Franklin was a part of a Tribute to the Rev Timothy Wright. The night celebrated not only the best of gospel music from the past year, but also the sense of national change surrounding the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama. The most overtly political yet simultaneously patriotic performance of the night came as pop legend Dionne Warwick sang a slow, reverential version of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" with a nine-piece choir, as footage of Obama played on the video screens surrounding the stage. However, the night was not overwhelmed by politics, but more by a sense of celebration. The Stellar Awards show not only honors contemporary stars, but also reaches out to the foundations of gospel music with the award named after Jones, a lifetime achievement award named for Dr. James Cleveland (given this year to vocalist Darryl Coley) and a notable achievement award named for legendary songwriter Thomas Dorsey, awarded this time to Vickie Winans. In the radio station of the year categories: KHVN was nominated for Major Market station of the year. Carmina Barnett and Camille Holmes were on hand as a finalist with WGRB Chicago, WLIB New York, and the winner was WHUR of Washington D.C. Barnett and Holmes were very excited for KHVN success of being nominated for three consecutive years as “Radio Station of the year. In the Large Market category WFMI of Virginia Beach, VA. was the winner of the Station of the Year. Mike Chandler is owner of the station and yours truly Cedric Bailey is the afternoon host along with Dewayne Sterling, Dewayne Dancer, Keith Solis, Mother Bakker and Willie Mae McIver. We are very grateful to God for this honor of being nominated 4 years in a row and winning two of those years. The Stellar Awards, held for the fourth consecutive year in Nashville, were taped for broadcast in March 7 at @7pm on WGN America, The Gospel Music Channel March 1 at 7pm and will air March. 7 on KXTA-21at 9pm.

Dave’s dreams of major league baseball success were dashed by an injury in college, leading him to a steady but unfulfilling career as the head of a small construction firm. Clarice is basking in the glow of real estate stardom, creating a life that revolves around her rise to the top. She has become blind to Dave’s needs, the most important being his desire to become a father and start a family with her. They face a total disruption in their lives when a car crash seriously injures Clarice, whose meddling mother, Mary (JENIFER LEWIS), blames Dave for her daughter’s leg injuries and derailed career. Help comes in the form of kind-hearted physical therapist and single mom Julie Sawyer (MAEVE QUINLAN), whose son Bryson (CANNON JAY) is coached by Dave and his pals Brock (EDDIE CIBRIAN) and Tree (KEVIN HART) in Little League baseball. Though Clarice is helped by Julie’s care, she becomes concerned that her constant criticism of Dave has pushed her husband away – possibly into the arms of the empathetic Julie. Soon Dave and Clarice must face a married couple’s most serious questions: are we really meant to be together, and if we are, how do we fight to keep what we have built as man and wife Thanks for listening to our podcast interview with Bishop TD Jakes. Juanita Bynum interview with Cedric Bailey on Rejoice Musical Soul Food
Thank you for taking the time to listen our interview with Juanita Bynum. Our favorite prophetess has a new double CD out just in time for the holidays. The title is "Pour My Love on You" and features the production talents of Myron Williams, who produced the gold album "A Piece of My Passion". Mother Bynum is featured with Bynum on the song "He Touched Me" and The late Daddy Bynum as well with Daddy's Song. Juanita Bynum’s new project, "Pour My Love On You", is an extraordinary testimony of the past 15 months of her real life experiences. "Pour My Love On You" was recorded live and also in the studio over the past year in various locations all across the country as she continued to minister to thousands in venues and churches everywhere. There is a tremendous buzz of excitement among radio announcers and the Juanita Bynum supporter, as internet pre-promotion of the single has already begun. Once again, Juanita Bynum taps the remarkable production abilities of Stellar Award Nominee producer Myron Williams, producer of the nearly platinum album, RIAA certified gold "A Piece of My Passion". "Pour My Love On You", is a thrilling, more intense combination of the same passionate lyrics and music from her previous album, with an added twist of foot stompin old school church! In fact, "Pour My Love On You" has been dubbed as the honorary follow up album to A Piece of My Passion as it demonstrates an even deeper passion, sincerity, strength and love for God by Juanita Bynum. "Pour My Love On You" will bring fans closer to the sound and worship that inspired Juanita Bynum to move on when she perhaps should have given up! Rejoice Musical Soul Food would to thank Ms. Bynum and Ms. Toska Medlock Lee for being our guest on our network. Remember you can visit Juanita Bynum online www.juanitabynum.com to our the CD. The 2008 Democratic Convention Report with Texas State Representive Marc Veasey and Cedric Bailey
A historic night in Denver with Texas State Representive Marc Veasey at 2008 Democratic Convention. Denver- WOW what an exciting convention. Wednesday night was a very moving night as Senator Hilary Clinton, Senator Joe Biden, and Senator John Kerry made speeches that brought the party together as one. Texas State Representive Marc Veasey of District 95 and National Radio Host Cedric Bailey had a chance to witness history along with the rest of the world. Be sure to click the play button and listen to this pod cast for the real story. Be sure to listen this Thursday afternoon online from 2pm to 7 pm EST with Cedric Bailey at www.musicalsoulfood.com the latest news from Denver. Meanwhile the floor of the Pepsi Center erupted in cheers and several delegates wept as Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton stopped the roll call and moved that Barack Obama become the Democratic nominee by acclamation. Moe Spencer was clearly overcome with emotion; tears welling up in his eyes just minutes after Sen. Hillary Clinton moved that the roll call end and Barack Obama - by acclamation - becomes the Democratic nominee. "I needed to hear Hillary say that Obama is the nominee," said Spencer, after tightly hugging friends around him. "I think this is resolved with everyone in this building." Evie Hudak, a Westminster resident and Obama supporter said the moment was "unbelievable." "I've never felt like that before," she said among the throngs of people creeping along the crowded floor. Sara Garcia, 60, of California had tears streamed down her face. "Only a woman like Hillary Rodham Clinton could bring unity to this party” said "Nobody else. She's a class act. I'd proud of her. It took somebody with class who cares about this country to pull it together." Nearby, David Gilbert-Pederson, 17, of Minnesota, wept for a different reason. "As a young person of color, it means the world to me to have an African-American accept this nomination," Gilbert-Pederson said. "It really does mean that anything is possible." Gilbert-Pederson is the youngest of all 4,000 delegates. New York delegate Donna Stempniak cast her vote on the first ballot for Clinton. "I feel committed to support her because I ran as a delegate for Hillary in my district," said Stempniak, 56, of Lancaster, New York, a Buffalo-suburb. But Stempniak wept after Clinton gave her delegates to Obama

Cedric Bailey at Democratic National Convention innterview with the Hon. Rafael Anchia
Monday night was of the chain here in Denver. Michelle Obama, Senator Edward Kennedy were the key speakers. I have included my report for the LaVida News of Tarrant County in the podcast and my interview with the Hon. Rafeal Anchia. Denver- It’s Convention time in the state of Colorado and delegates, elected officials, protesters and the media have arrived in Denver. On Monday night former President Jimmy Carter, Senator Edward Kennedy address the convention to ask the party to support Senator Barack Obama as the next President of the United States. “Nothing - nothing - is going to keep me away from this special gathering tonight," said Kennedy, who is suffering from brain cancer and has not made a public appearance since July. He returned to the Senate then to break a Republican filibuster on a health care issue. Senators on both sides of the aisle rose to honor him. Kennedy received one the loudest roars from the crowd Monday when he said, "I pledge to you I will be there next January on the floor of the U.S. Senate." This country needs to restore its future, to arise to its best ideals, to elect Barack Obama president of the United States, Now let’s talk about Michelle Obama, who could become the first African-American first lady in January, tonight gave a personal and sentimental account of life with her husband in a primetime speech intended to bring his narrative into the homes of millions of American voters. In her first major speech since Barack Obama launched his presidential campaign 20 months ago, she was loudly welcomed by the 4,000-plus delegates at the Democratic convention in Denver waving "Michelle" banners. She went on to speak about Obama as a husband and father who lived his life imbued with American values. One of the biggest cheers of the night came when she offered an olive branch to the Clinton camp, praising her for her success in advancing the women's movement. Clinton had "put those 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling so that our daughters and sons can dream a little bigger and aim a little higher". Meanwhile Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama are working on a deal to give her some votes in the roll call for the Democratic presidential nomination, but quickly end the divided balloting in unanimous consent for Obama. Democratic officials involved in the negotiations said the idea is that at the start of the state-by-state vote for the presidential nomination Wednesday night, delegates would cast their votes for Clinton or Obama. But the voting would be cut off after a couple of states, the officials said, perhaps ending with New York, when Clinton herself would call for unanimous backing for Obama from the convention floor. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity while the deal was being finalized. Many of those delegates, she told reporters on Monday, will likely vote for him. Others, she said, "feel an obligation to the people who sent them here that they were elected to represent." Clinton said part of her job at the convention will be letting those delegates know "that however they decide to vote, we will all be united behind Senator Obama." "There is no doubt in anyone's mind that this is Barack Obama's convention," she said, adding that it is only natural for there to be some lingering issues to resolve after a tough primary. "It would have been the same way if I had won and Barack was here supporting the unity of the party," she said. "This was a hard-fought campaign and there was a lot of intensity and passion associated with it, in part because of the historic nature of our two candidacies." Clinton gives a prime-time convention speech Tuesday night, and the following day will gather her delegates together and publicly release them and urge them to support Obama. Also on Wednesday night Senator Joe Biden of Delaware, Obama's vice presidential pick, will be the featured messenger of a program titled 'Securing America's Future.' Convention officials say they've lined up 'voices who share Barack Obama's vision of making America stronger and safer.' The night's message will be crafted around Obama's plan for 'a new tough, foreign policy approach that is neither Republican nor Democratic. Finally on Thursday evening everything will move outdoors to Invesco Field, where 75,000 are expected to hear Obama's acceptance speech. 'Have no doubt,' said Leah Daughtry, the convention's CEO, 'every seat will be a great seat as we listen to Barack Obama communicate the urgency of the moment, highlight the challenges Americans are facing and call on Americans to come together to change the course of our nation. Oscar winner and former “American Idol” contestant Jennifer Hudson will sing at the Democratic National Convention at the request of Barack Obama. A 'unity breakfast' marking the 45th anniversary of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s 'I Have a Dream' speech in Washington. Speakers will include the Rev. Al Sharpton, Rabbi Jack Moline of Alexandria, Va., (and No. 3 on Newsweek's 2008 list of the 'top 25 pulpit rabbis in America') and Sister Simone Campbell. Next week we will focus on the overall Democratic Convention and I will share some comments from the various delegate from the state of Texas. Thanks listening and reading this podcast, As you can see I've got a train to catch. Cedric Bailey, is on the air from 1pm to 6pm cst www.musicalsoulfood.com

Joshua Allen wins Season 4 Finale of "So you think you can Dance"
Joshua Allen took home $250,000 and the title of America’s Favorite Dancer on Thursday night during the Season 4 finale of the reality show competition So You Think You Can Dance. He will also be a part of an upcoming movie and go on tour this fall on Sept 20th in Tacoma Washington. The tour will hit the metroplex on October 10th at Nokia Theater in Grand Prairie, Texas. Joshua, who performed consistently well in different types of dance, seemed overwhelmed to hear that he had won. With tears in his eyes, he said: "Never let anybody tell You you can’t . You can always go for it. The sky is the limit." . . do anything”. Let’s take a look back on the road, which lead him to victory. Joshua and his mother Lisa Allen travel to the auditions. The self-proclaimed hip-hop dancer caught the eye of Debbie Allen at local auditions for Pepito’s Story when he was in elementary school (he was a frog in the 1998 Bass Hall production). For So You Think You Can Dance, Joshua auditioned in Dallas, made it to the semifinals in Las Vegas and was chosen as one of the 20 finalists who would appear on the TV show. He started street dancing as a child, taking over the sidelines during pee wee league football games, showcasing his Michael Jackson moves to the crowds. He paid for dance lessons by earning scholarships to intensive workshops and from the Fort Worth Ballet, and by doing chores around the studio. He taught classes for free at Bedford’s Rhythm Nation Studio in exchange for other classes. Joshua was selected and the entire Allen Family was celebrating Joshua’s performance from the audition when a tragedy occurs in Burleson. Joshua’s cousin Danny “Bucket” Allen was killed over an iPod at a friend’s home. “Bucket “was Joshua’s biggest fan along with their grandparents Margie and Lorenza Allen, who live in the Stop Six area of Fort Worth. The family attended Golden Gate Church of God in Christ where his father serves as an Elder and his mother is a Missionary & Sunday School teacher. Danny Sr. and Eva Allen were very proud of “Bucket” and knew that God had blessed them with a great son. They also knew that Joshua had to make an important decision on his career. He had participated in various dance events in the DFW area, including Holiday in the Park, an event held at Six Flags over Texas. However, this show was going to take him to another level. Joshua had decided to cancel his trip Hollywood and attend the funeral with family. But the Allen Family knew that if “Bucket” were alive he would say, “Go Joshua Go Joshua”. So Joshua wrote a poem about his cousin that was shared at the homegoing celebration. Joshua said that he would dedicate his performance in memory of “Bucket”. Each week Joshua consistently wowed the judges— and the audience — with his ability to move easily between styles and remain graceful even with his athletic body structure. He garnered nearly universal positive praise. Audrey Allen Crawford says “The entire family is very excited about Joshua’s win on the reality show, So You Think You Can Dance. All of his hard work has paid off and he will be a great success. We will miss him greatly but we know he is doing something that he really loves. Looking at him perform as a child and all the courage that he exhibit while performing, we as a family knew then that he would make it big one day. Hard work and endurance does pay off”. Crawford continues, “With the tragic death of my nephew prior to the beginning of this show brought a great cloud over the family. We really did not know how we would make it. With the help of God we are still struggling with it. I really believe that Danny (Bucket) is rejoicing at Joshua’s win because he loved to see him dance and did the rest of the family. In a letter to Bucket, Joshua wrote letting him know that he would be dancing for him as well as the rest of the world. Joshua’s win has brought a great deal of sunshine to the Allen Family and I know God had it in his plan for us because of the sorrow that we were experiencing”. A parade in Joshua’s honor will be held on Saturday August 23, 2008 at 10:00 am. The parade will begin at the 9200 block of W Cleburne Rd. Corner of W Cleburne Rd and N Crowley Cleburne, in Crowley, which is the Southeast area of Fort Worth. It will proceed to the high school where Joshua graduated, North Crowley High School. In closing I would like to commend Lisa Allen (Joshua mother) for the great job she has done, in raising her sons. The Allen Family are truly a blessed family. In today’s world, where violence dominates the headlines on the news reports. This family was able to bond together as one. May God continue to bless you and Thanks Joshua for making a difference and not giving up on what you love to do DANCE. Radio interview with Audrey Allen-Crawford and Lisa Allen-Tolbert with Cedric Bailey on Rejoice Musical Soul Food
The Allen Family are from Fort Worth, Texas. Every Wednesday and Thursday they meet at a local pizza parlor in Arlington to watch the show, "So you Think that you can Dance. Lisa's son Joshua & his dance partner Katee have won the judges heart with their talent. Check out the podcast and watch the show and vote for Joshua and Katee. Meanwhile here is an article from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Fort Worth native Joshua Allen won the judges (and my) hearts during the early audition rounds with his insane popping and elevation. His solo audition prompted Nigel to tell him he was his favorite dancer of the day. As if we needed another reason to watch the wonderfully entertaining So You Think You Can Dance (and I certainly didn't) Allen's it - the sporadically trained dancer made the cut for the Top 20. The North Crowley High School graduate took a few minutes to chat - apologizing for running due a brace-tightening appointment - with the Star-Telegram today. Though he's come across as shy so far on the show, I found the 19-year-old to be sweet and articulate and confident but not arrogant. He was kind enough to answer some questions about his dance history, the hell that was Vegas week and Nigel's decision to give Robert Muraine a solo stage.
