Why This Uganda Project Proves Small Ideas Change Communities

from Where to Find Bread with Teri Murrison · host Teri Murrison

UPDATE: visit https://www.rootsafrica.org/ to learn what Cedric and his team have accomplished since he and Teri talked last year!Dec. 27, 2024 Teri talks with Cedric Nwafor, founder of Roots Africa, about the Goats for Kamuli Kids initiative and the difference they believe it can make in a poor district in rural Uganda. When Teri was 5 years old, she lived in Uganda with her mother and father, a Fulbright Scholar who conducted research and assisted Ugandan farmers to more raise livestock. Invited back in 2023, she was excited to see that others are carrying on the work he started in the 60s. Teri traveled to Uganda with Cedric's NGO, Roots Africa, to learn about their efforts to empower rural Ugandan farmers to ramp up their entrepreneurial efforts as a vehicle for changing their lives and the communities. In the Kamuli District, a region far from the capital city of Kampala, a project was begun to raise goats to fund children's school attendance. Teri was pleased to have had a hand in that project when she met a young girl who was unable to attend school because her family couldn't afford the tuition. Cedric and Teri talked about ways listeners could get involved to support the worthwhile program and listeners rallied, supplying seed money to get the program started. We understand it continues today.
