臣查二品衔前任太常寺卿唐鉴，由翰林院检讨，历官至江南布政使，内转太常寺卿。年老致仕，主讲江南钟山书院。咸丰元年奉旨进京，召见十五次，皇上特旨褒嘉。以唐鉴品学兼优，器识安定，赏给二品衔，仍谕令回南主讲书院。咸丰二年，粤匪窜扰湖南，唐鉴念切庐墓，于三年正月回湘。服官三十余年，父子皆位至藩司，而家无儋石，清苦异常。
