Charlie Watts nunca fue el baterista más ostentoso. No era conocido por frenéticos o explosivos solos, él fue el sutil y estoico latido de los Rolling Stones por casi 60 años. Aficionado del jazz, se enamoró de la batería después de escuchar a Chico Hamilton tocando las escobillas en Walking Shoes, y fue introducido en las oscuras artes del rock 'n' roll por Mick Jagger y Keith Richards a principios de los 60. "Charlie Watts me da la libertad de volar en el escenario", comentó en alguna entrevista Keith Richards.
