Chatting with Dear Friend Ollie about Loss & Grief

from Uncorked with Funny Wine Girl · host Jeannine Luby

Given that May is Bladder Cancer Awareness Month and that my father Joe Luby just passed on May 13, I wanted to have an open and honest conversation about the loss of a parent and how we grieve.Oliver (or Ollie as I call him) has been my dear friend since our years at Bishop Hannan High School. Since that time I had the pleasure of getting to know his mother Christine (Chrissy) Ord who had a laugh that could shake the walls. I loved her. She died six years ago in April from bladder cancer. My father Joseph (Joe) Luby died on May 13 after an 11-month battle with mesothelioma (cancer in his pleural lining) that is caused by exposure to asbestos. Read his obituary I wrote, here. I wanted to sit down with my dear friend Ollie to chat about the cancer journey that our parents were on and how we're handling the loss--mine being fresh at this time. We both hope that our conversation will lead you to feel comfortable talking with someone about any grief you're experiencing and/or have a conversation about death because it's not as scary as it's made out to be. And please don't be afraid to season that conversation liberally with humor!I share heartfelt gratitude with my podcast sponsors Reinvented Threads with Gabby Lynn and Lisa Rigau of Healthy Lifestyle Management.
