Child Abuse - No More Silence

from The Missing Piece [International] · host The Missing Piece

Child abuse is becoming more prevalent in India today, however, none of us is really addressing this critical issue. Instead of seeking ways to stop such "crime," local government allows it to take roots, as well as seeing it as the social norm. Author, and journalist Rituparna Chatterjee joined our show to explain more in her new book. She is a bestselling author, journalist and columnist. She is a former foreign correspondent and columnist for The Economic Times. For the same newspaper, her column California Dreaming was about her life as an immigrant mother in America, its gun violence and shooter drills for kindergarteners. Her first book An Ordinary Life (Penguin/Viking, 2017) was on the life of the Emmy Award-nominated actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Her second book The Water Phoenix (Bloomsbury, 2020), a magical realism memoir of how she healed from childhood abuse, was in the top five bestselling nonfiction of 2020 and number one on Google India. The Water Phoenix was also the 2021 winner of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Laadli Media and Advertising Award for Gender Sensitivity (Non Fiction). Rituparna is now writing a novel.
