Chronic Pain and the Older Adults #andnotor

from MMOA Podcast - Physical Therapy | Fitness | Geriatrics

60% of our case load is going to be in chronic pain if we work in the geriatric setting.    That is a BIG number. Of those, 60% are going to have chronic pain in multiple sites on their body.    I would like to say that we as healthcare providers are helping this situation, in some cases we are, but too often we see pain be dismissed in older adults as a "natural consequence of getting older". Sure pain can be present with wear and tear on joints but this sentiment and thought is dismissive and ageist. Not to mention it can feel hopeless for our clients if they believe that there is nothing to be done and they will just need to endure this pain forever.  A new feasibility study looked at incorporating pain neuroscience education (PNE) with exercise. We deep dive into this in this weeks  episode of #GeriOnICE  Want to make sure you stay on top of all things geriatrics?
