Clean Up the Temple of Our Democracy and Our Hearts

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi stated last week that the rioters at the US Capitol engaged in the “desecration” of the “temple” of our democracy. That is very religious terminology applied to a secular state, which interestingly is not uncommon in the United States throughout our history. We will focus on this theme of desecration involving democratic institutions as well as the Christian religion in our society.
