Close Your Eyes

from A Constant Becoming · host AConstantBecoming

On those days when you don't see clearly, can you close your eyes? Can you simply feel? Can you separate utility from connection, anticipation from gratitude, and what your heart yearns for from what makes sense? Now, can you open your eyes and walk forward with confidence?Sometimes I feel like I’m squinting at life. Things aren’t clear and I’m working to somehow claw meaning or clarity through the fog. And, almost every time I try to do this, one of two things happens. Either I get no closer to clarity or I invent a story to explain why clarity hasn’t yet come. Rarely if ever, does putting more effort into perception increase my clarity. And so I wonder whether we should simply close our eyes and take a break when things aren’t clear. Instead of trying to see it now, give the universe a moment and come back to it. You can’t see through the fog by squinting, but, over time, the fog tends to lift or you sail through it and see more clearly on the other side.As you read this I wonder:* What do you most want clarity on but don’t yet have it?* Can you look away or close your eyes for a moment and feel the relief?* Can you be sure that tomorrow will give you a different perspective and that clarity will come, at some point? As we close out the week, can you be willing to let your perception change over time, see what is ahead, and sail on without ever committing to one specific port?
