Co-Sleeping Tips and Toddler Sleep from a Mom of 3

from Lifegiving Motherhood · host Emily Parkins

Join me today as I deep dive into our sleeping arrangements, co-sleeping tips, reasons we started co-sleeping, and what we do when the kids want to sleep with us! We have co-slept with all of our babies and I love it!!! We started co-sleeping because as a nursing mom that’s the only way I could get sleep! I would just roll over and nurse them back to sleep and that way I would never have to get up. There’s actually a lot of studies showing that this is better for the baby and mom. I especially love it because as a working mom my kids aren't home all day and I loved the extra cuddles! There are safe ways to co-sleep though, and there are definitely a ton of resources online but here are a few of my best tips -❤️ Make sure you have bedrails because we have learn firsthand that if we don’t have bed rails in our bed that the babies can fall out! Which is very scary. So you want to make sure that you have bedrails or something next to your bed so if the baby does rollover unexpectedly, they’re not falling out of bed.❤️ Put your hair is up. If you have really long hair and a baby that moves a lot just put your hair up or in a in a braid at the end of the day!❤️ Never get in that co-sleeping bed after having a few drinks. You know what alcohol does to you or what other substances do to you, so just don’t do them if you’re going to co sleep. That doesn’t mean you can’t have a glass or two of wine. This means don’t have 10 glasses of wine! Don’t get in bed drunk. Don’t get in bed under the influence of anything. I don’t even take sleep supplements when I co-sleep because I wanna make sure that if something is going on in my bed with the baby that I am well aware of what’s happening.❤️ As we’ve had older kids, we can’t share our bed with everybody! So, if the kids wanted to sleep with us out of jealousy, or just, they need some extra cuddles we encouraged them to bring their sleeping bags into our bedroom so they can sleep in our bedroom as well! They think it’s super fun because they’re sleeping in their sleeping bags and we appreciate it because they’re not in bed with us! 🤣❤️ I always have a bottle filled with water next to our bed. I have found that this really helps with ending night feedings! If they get thirsty they get water!
