Coach Harvey Hyde on the Trojans opening fall camp in preparation for the 2023 football season

from Peristyle Podcast - USC Trojan Football Discussion · host USCFootball.com - Ryan Abraham, 247Sports, USC, USC Trojans, USC football, College Football

On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back after a brief hiatus talking about the USC Trojans getting ready to kick off the highly anticipated 2023 college football season, the second year under head coach Lincoln Riley. The Trojans return Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Caleb Williams, a ton of skill talent and a suspect defense that added a lot of new pieces during the off-season.The guys start off talking about how the Trojans were well represented in Las Vegas for Pac-12 Media Day with Riley, Williams and Oklahoma State transfer linebacker Mason Cobb. Overall Coach Hyde didn't feel like the Pac-12 did a good job of propping up what should be a strong conference this season. He felt like there wasn't any positive news and there was no strong leadership showing that would help produce more Pac-12 pride.Speaking of the Pac-12, there was plenty of "unity" talk coming on media day only to have Colorado bolt for the Big 12 just a few days later. Coach Hyde talks about all of the movement with the CU athletic program in hiring Coach Prime, a complete flip of the roster through the NCAA Transfer Portal and now switching conference affiliations. Coach feels like this Pac-12 is to blame for USC, UCLA and now Colorado leaving, going back to how things were run under Larry Scott and the conference presidents and chancellors. They also discuss last week's USC Media Day that gave everyone an opportunity to interview all of the assistant coaches and a few dozen prominent players about their off-season, getting ready for fall camp and of course the upcoming season. And they talk about what day one of USC fall camp was like, with an early morning workout that was over on Dedeaux Field. Coach Hyde loves to check out the early practices because it gives him an opportunity to eyeball the players up close and get a feel for how they have developed over the off-season.Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! Thanks to Trader Joe's for sponsoring the Peristyle Podcast!Make sure you check out USCFootball.com for complete coverage of this USC Trojan football team.
