Coach Harvey Hyde on USC's announced team captains plus his record prediction for the 2023 Trojans

from Peristyle Podcast - USC Trojan Football Discussion · host USCFootball.com - Ryan Abraham, 247Sports, USC, USC Trojans, USC football, College Football

On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back talking about the start to the 2023 college football season with the Trojans hosting San Jose State Saturday night in the Coliseum. There is a lot of excitement surrounding the opening of the season and Coach Hyde says it time for the coaches to time everything right so players are fired up for a game on Saturday and not overly hypes so they are game ready on Wednesday. The guys start talking about the newly announced team captains for the season with quarterback Caleb Williams, offensive linemen Justin Dedich and linebacker Shane Lee returning as captains for the second year in a row. They are joined by offensive lineman Jonah Monheim and linebacker Mason Cobb to round out the 2023 captains. Coach Hyde says players know who they have voted for and they know who the leaders are, so it is important that the coaches honor the player’s vote and name their captains accordingly. When the dust settles on Sunday morning what will USC fans be talking about? Coach Hyde feels that this defense is going to make a statement in its first encounter of the season and dominate San Jose State. He feels the defense will show major improvement and the offense will realize that they will be able to rely more on the defense getting stops instead of simply outscoring everyone. Ryan added that he feels the defense needs to generate stops even more so that forcing turnovers, showing that tackling has improved and performances like we saw late last season will be a thing of the past. They finish up the show analyzing USC’s 2023 schedule game by game, talking about where the Trojans could slip up and where they will be challenged and finally what they feel USC’s regular season record will be following the season finale against UCLA. Ryan has the Trojans going 11-1 and Coach Hyde thinks USC can finish the season undefeated. Both feel that to do that Caleb Williams needs to stay healthy and if the defense improves like they both believe it can.As usual the guys answer listener questions via email, text message and voicemail to finish up the show. Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! Thanks to Trader Joe's for sponsoring the Peristyle Podcast!Make sure you check out USCFootball.com for complete coverage of this USC Trojan football team.
