Coach Harvey Hyde thinks USC has too much talent for that type of performance against Arizona

from Peristyle Podcast - USC Trojan Football Discussion · host USCFootball.com - Ryan Abraham, 247Sports, USC, USC Trojans, USC football, College Football

On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together discussing another clunker of a game for the Trojans, this time a 43-41 triple overtime victory over unranked Arizona at home in the Coliseum. Coach Hyde, as usual, has some strong opinions on how this USC football team performed late Saturday night against the Wildcats. Early in the game when the offense wasn't clicking and wide receivers were not getting open, he wanted to see head coach Lincoln Riley start using the backs and tight ends in the passing game. Coach Hyde also wanted to see the Trojans commit to the run game with Arizona dropping more defenders back into coverage. On the defensive side of the ball Coach Hyde thinks there are still too many rotations going on and he wants to see fewer players coming in and out of the game. He was also concerned that backup quarterback Noah Fifita had so much success against this USC defense, to the tune of 302 yards and five passing touchdowns. In general Coach Hyde doesn't want to see things be so complicated for the Trojans, he wants to see USC get back to basics so there isn't any confusion for the players on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. After the game quarterback Caleb Williams once again said every team that plays USC is giving them their best shot, it is a game that all opponents circle on their calendars. Coach Hyde talks about that and how a blueblood program like the Trojans has to deal with being a target week after week.At the end of the day, the Trojans did just enough to win the game, but he feels that this roster has too much talent stacked up to deliver this type of performance at home against an unranked opponent. As usual the guys answer listener questions via email, text message and voicemail to finish up the show. Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! Thanks to Trader Joe's for sponsoring the Peristyle Podcast!Make sure you check out USCFootball.com for complete coverage of this USC Trojan football team.
