Coach Harvey Hyde's USC fall camp observations plus the death of the Pac-12

from Peristyle Podcast - USC Trojan Football Discussion · host USCFootball.com - Ryan Abraham, 247Sports, USC, USC Trojans, USC football, College Football

On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back talking about a variety of USC football topics as the highly anticipated start of the 2023 college football season inches closer. The guys start off talking about how the Trojans have looked in fall camp so far, with Coach Hyde making it down to campus last week to check out the team. Coach likes to sit by the gate and eyeball the players as the emerge from the locker room, giving him a chance to size everyone up and compare the new players and see the body changes of the veteran players. He also likes the new vantage point the media has from over on the Dedeaux Field bleachers, giving us a chance to see more of what is happening on the field. It also allows us to see the offensive and defensive linemen up close (and Coach Hyde thinks the offensive line is much bigger than he has seen before). He also really likes the depth USC has for their offensive skill positions and still has some concerns about the inside linebacker spots.Next Coach and Ryan discuss the newly released preseason coaches poll where USC came in at No. 6. Some of the Trojans opponents and programs with tight USC connections are ranked including Washington at No. 11, Notre Dame at No. 13, Utah at No. 14 and Oregon at No. 15. USC’s Cotton Bowl opponent Tulane is ranked No. 23, Steve Sarkisian and Texas are No. 12 and Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss are No. 22. The Trojans don’t play Oregon State (No. 18) in the regular season but could face the Beavers in the final Pac-12 Championship Game. The guys final topic is on the death of the Pac-12 and the over 100 years of tradition ruined in large part by former commissioner Larry Scott and the Pac-12 presidents. Both Coach and Ryan think it is a sad day seeing the conference going down in flames like that (though many USC fans don't agree). The Trojans will be in a better spot for sure in the Big Ten, but losing some of those traditional rivals like Cal and Stanford will take a while to get used to.Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! Thanks to Trader Joe's for sponsoring the Peristyle Podcast!Make sure you check out USCFootball.com for complete coverage of this USC Trojan football team.
