Cognitive Disability Frame of Reference

from OT conversations

Do you want to know more about cognition? have you heard about different cognitive levels? In this episode, I talk about a Frame of reference called Cognitive Disability where it talks about the 6 stages of cognition conceptualised by Claudia Allen. While a lot of people are into cognitive behavioural therapy, I find that that is not the correct frame of reference for people with organic brain pathology. Cognitive disability is a better choice for clinicians. I think the only reason why we are not using this is because it is not widely known in the UK. But, In the field of Occupational Therapy, this is a headliner. This is very useful in critical care practice, head injury, elderly medicine and even paediatric and learning disability arena. This Frame of Reference ties up very well with the model, Ecology of Human performance. Enjoy.
