He is a past president of the Association for Computational Linguistics and Ex-Vijay and Sita Vashee Chair Professor  He currently heads the Natural language processing research group Center For Indian Language Technology (CFILT) lab at IIT Bombay which was established in 2000 at the Computer Science and Engineering Department, IIT Bombay. Formerly known as the Center for Indian Language Technology CFILT lab has been publishing in the area of Natural Language Processing and Artificial Intelligence year after year.
