Aike was formerly Team Sunweb’s sports director and contributed to Tom Dumoulin’s overall victory in the 2017 Giro d’Italia. Aike and I take a deep dive into the physical and mental challenges required to compete at the highest level in the world of cycling. We examine the intense pressure put on cyclist’s to produce results, and what the repercussions have been for some of the biggest names in the sport. Aike explains the hurdles of developing a team of riders and the importance of buy-in when introducing a new training program.
