Communication is about balance. Look at your own relationships. If you're an overcommunicator or external person, maybe you haven't had the best relationships with people who are the same way. (Unless you feed off of conflict, which is a whole other conversation.) In general though, external communicators are balanced by internal people. It's a give-and-take. You have control over what relationships you have in your personal life, but we don't have that luxury with professional relationships. If you've been an agent for even a short amount of time, you've probably had a call with another agent where they said something along the lines of "I've been doing this for 35 years..." This can feel belittling and it can be tempting to be combative back. But stop living in assumptions. Maybe they aren't trying to be belittling. Maybe they want to assure you that they have the expertise to get you through whatever you're working through together. The same goes for your relationships with clients. Instead of getting annoyed with a client who is hyper-fixated on evaluating every foundation and basement for waterproofing. Maybe find out where it's coming from. Did they have flooding issues in their previous home? Get out of judgment and into curiosity. We're all human and in general, we're all a little too quick to judge. As we said last week: pause and take a moment before you react.
