When they’re all-out diving, cheering each other on, and having fun, with that fearless attitude… that’s the best kind of competitive! The series continues where we discuss the traits of the BEST teams and players: the 7Cs! Today we talk about being Competitive. We define it as developing a winning mindset by focusing on the process. It’s about competing against yourself, using failure as feedback and creating a more productive mindset to stay on the path to mastery. What it looks like when players are too competitive: * Perfectionist; nothing is ever good enough * Not focusing on the process * Unrealistic expectations * Negative attitude * Not enjoying the game as much anymore What it looks like when players aren’t competitive enough: * Seem to not care * Come off as lazy * May be disguising fear of failure * Don’t push themselves What the right balance of competitive drive actually looks like: * Having fun! * Going all out on plays * Fearless * Cheering each other on * High energy What we can do to fuel the healthy kind of competitive drive: * Hacky sack games before the game * Pre-game quote of the day * Music * Letting go of the need to be so serious How being competitive can help players with: * Believing in themselves * Recovering from mistakes * Getting stuck on the uncontrollables * Getting in their own head * Dealing with pressure and expectations Alicia’s lessons learned last season using our system: * Establishing a common language * Breaking down the concepts then bringing it together as a team * Reflecting individually first, then sharing with teammates Today’s freebie!
