Confessions of a dad. how can we teach children to understand the value of money

from Afternoon Talk · host SAfm

Azhar Laher – Listener. Matshidiso Khuele - Programme Coordinator of Financial Education and Financial Inclusion Division at The Banking Association South Africa. I am excited to announce the completion of a project I’ve been hard at work on over the past 2 years. As a father of two beautiful, kind and intelligent children, I realized that I was letting my kids down in a very big way and I had to take action. While I’ve always tried to instil in my children the habits that are key for happiness and success in life – things like working hard, having a strong moral code, and remembering the importance of family – I left out a very important component: managing finances and understanding the value of money. I wrote “Confessions of a Dad: My Kids Don’t Understand the Value of Money” as a guide for instructive and meaningful conversations you can have about money with your own kids. You can use it as a framework to build their financial awareness, and a springboard to launch discussions about money issues.
