Confluence of Ideas - Foreign Policy Under a Biden or Trump Presidency

With the election looming, there is the potential for changes in foreign policy. Phil Adler, our host, interviews Bill O’Grady and Patrick Fearon-Hernandez as they address the future of American foreign policy. Bill discusses how a President Biden will conduct foreign policy, while Patrick examines what could be different with a second Trump term. This podcast relates to Weekly Geopolitical Reports published in late August on these topics. For Biden, there is a degree of uncertainty since he would be a new president. And, although it is tempting to assume a Trump presidency would be more of the same, there would likely be some differences as well. One possible change is that in a second term the Treasury might rely more on dollar weakness and less on tariffs to conduct trade policy.
