Connor Sablan

from Jordan Caballero Show · host Jordan Caballero

Connor Sablan is a Chamorro jazz pianist born and raised on the beautiful island of Guam. Chamorro refers to the indigenous people of this tropical Mariana’s Island. Guam is a United States territory, so Sablan was born a U.S. citizen. Connor learned piano at the age of seven and played throughout his childhood. During high school he became more passionate about writing music and singing with influences such as Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and The Beatles. Connor moved to the Bay Area in 2014 to attend college. Here he fell in love with the history of the area, specifically the counter-culture revolution of the 1960’s and all the music of that era. Sablan became a huge rock fan. Among his favorite bands are The Beatles, The Grateful Dead, The Zombies, The Rolling Stones, Jefferson Airplane, Led Zeppelin and many others. It was during his time at the College of San Mateo that he fell in love with Jazz. Connor started going to the jam sessions in San Francisco which turned out to be the catalyst for his career in jazz piano. He started writing jazz music the minute he could get the chords under his fingers.
