Conscience of a Liberal, by Paul Krugman

So I just read “Conscience of a Liberal” by Paul Krugman. I always recommend reading things you disagree with, but in this case I’ll save you time by telling you it’s just not worth reading. Its a book of Krugman ranting about Republicans and advocating equality of outcome, and then the publishers slapped that title on it so it would sell. It’s false advertising. It’s marketed as a response to “Conscience of a Conservative” by Goldwater. Krugman references the book twice and Goldwater once, comprising three paragraphs of a 300 page book. The book contains no mention of any principles or justification for them. And thanks to the Contra Krugman podcast, I know not to trust anything Krugman says (especially when his sources are leftist interpretations of what he references, rather than the original source). He also, at the very end, defines “liberal” as one concerned with wealth inequality and describes how progressives are basically liberals that take action more. It’s not that you shouldn’t read the book because you would disagree with it. You shouldn’t read it because there’s no actual substance to the book. No opposing arguments, just “right-wingers are racist because their speeches include far right dog-whistles to racists” One of the worst books I’ve ever read. I know I sound biased. I gave Conscience of a Conservative a good review, and this one a bad review. I’m actually a fan of liberalism, but Paul Krugman should not have been the author of this book.
