Contending For the Faith: Jude 1:1-4

What if the most loving thing someone could do is tell you the hard truth? That is exactly what Jude does in the opening verses of his short but powerful letter. He wanted to write an encouraging message about salvation, but instead felt compelled to sound an alarm -- because truth, delivered with compassion, is love. The church in America has seen a staggering decline. Christian identification has dropped from nearly 90% in the 1970s to around 65% today, with church membership falling below 50% for the first time in history. Jude faced the same battle in the first century, warning that false teachers had crept in and were leading people away from the faith once delivered to the saints (Jude 1:3-4). The answer is not compromise. It is a return to the real story -- a Creator who entered his own creation, suffered, died, and rose again to offer us eternity. That message is worth contending for.
