Jesus shows his authority over Satan and engages in conflict about the power of God with the Pharisees. Jesus calls out the Pharisees by reminding them of the wicked generation in the wilderness. This whole passage is undergirded by the Exodus and wilderness narratives in Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers.
