Look forward to more credits as you apply reflections to the issues brought forward by Professor O'Connell.  Professor O'Connell is Emeritus Professor of Surgery at University College Dublin and former president of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). In recent years, Prof. O'Connell led the creation of the RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences, making the College a degree-granting organization. He was instrumental in developing a strategy to reduce the incidence of obstetrical injury to the pelvic floor and is an expert in the surgical treatment of locally advanced rectal cancer – a technically challenging area of surgical oncology. In September 2023, Professor O'Connell became an Honorary Fellow in the Division of Surgery of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
