from NTA Video Stories

Vero Beach, Florida – Indian River County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded after a man wanted on a Port St. Lucie Police Department warrant for burglary with battery climbed over the railing of the 17th Street Bridge and threatened to jump. The Crisis Negotiation Team spent approximately two hours talking with the man before he climbed back to safety and was taken into custody without injury. The Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit launched a boat, while Fire Rescue staged nearby on the water as a safety precaution throughout the negotiation. Bodycam and official footage shows the Crisis Negotiation Team working to resolve the incident. The 17th Street Bridge is also known as the Alma Lee Loy Bridge. The Sheriff’s Office credited the skill and patience of its negotiators with bringing the situation to a safe end.
