Courage of my convictions

from spiritual principles made practical's podcast · host Scott Friedman

Having the courage of my convictions is a challenge.  I know and believe that believing in myself is necessary to thrive at the highest level.  That becomes a challenge when believing in what I know to be true, and am committed to, is at odds with "conventional wisdom".  The longstanding habit of going along with other's thinking and behavior in an effort to feel more connected, more included,  more loved and more successful is a destructive habit.   What works is trusting myself and what I know.  I've tried to do things the way others do and by and large it hasn't worked for me.  I can point to every good thing that has happened in my life and it's been the result of me being true to myself, allowing myself to be authentic.  Sometimes that means saying and doing things that are different than what others say and do, and at times strongly recommend. My experience is that often my example of doing and thinking differently inspires others to change their thoughts and actions.  I'm not trying to change anyone else's thinking or behavior so much as just trying to be myself.  I believe the most powerful form of leadership is example.  I am focused on being myself and if my example beneficially inspires others, than so be it.  My focus is not in influencing others, but rather being myself.  I believe, again and again, that being myself is my best chance of success. Recording this podcast has helped me strengthen my belief in myself.  If it's inspired you to believe more in yourself, I'm happy for you; and that is a secondary benefit of me being myself.   I offer coaching that supports you in further accepting and being yourself.  If that's of inerest to you, contact me for a free introductory session at [email protected] My books are avaialble on Amazon.  You can find links to the books on my website, www.thoughtcoachingbyscott.com
