Crossing the Jordan & The New Covenant: Joshua 3–5 and the Last Supper (Day 113)

from The Bible in a Year Podcast with Scott Purcell

How do we remember the faithfulness of God in the midst of a transition? Today in Joshua, we witness one of the most miraculous moments in Israel's history: the parting of the Jordan River. Just as God opened the Red Sea for Moses, He opens the Jordan for Joshua, leading the people into the Promised Land on dry ground. In the Gospel of Luke, we enter the upper room. As the shadows of betrayal loom with Judas, Jesus redefines the Passover meal, offering His body and blood as the foundation of a New Covenant.Today’s Scripture:📖 Joshua 3–5:12 – The priests carry the Ark of the Covenant into the flooded Jordan, and the water stops flowing. After crossing, the people set up twelve stones as a memorial. Once in the land, the new generation is circumcised, they celebrate the Passover, and—signaling the end of an era—the manna finally ceases as they eat the produce of Canaan.📖 Luke 22:1–38 – The plot to kill Jesus thickens as Satan enters Judas. Jesus prepares the Passover, institutes the Lord's Supper, and addresses the disciples' dispute about greatness. The reading concludes with Jesus’ sobering warning to Peter about his coming denial.📖 Psalm 50:1–15 – A powerful declaration of God’s sovereignty: "The Mighty One, God the Lord, speaks and summons the earth." God clarifies that He doesn't need our sacrifices for His sake, but desires a heart of thanksgiving and trust.RESOURCES & READ-ALONG 📺 Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYKi8-_5xHGL_nFAZOthHtZhcb4CqW4ZF 📖 Follow the Text (LEB): https://biblia.com/books/leb/ 🗓️ Download the Full Plan: https://www.biblica.com/resources/reading-plans/CONNECT & SUPPORT 📧 Questions?
