"Crossing the Line" by Steve AdamsI was talking to a friend who has four kids. He was explaining to me the “joys” of taking road trips in their SUV, which is equipped with tv screens in the headrests. Our family had a 1963 Buick Special. When we went anywhere as a family, that was the car we used. Most trips were short, to town or to church, but on occasion, we took longer trips to visit relatives. On those greater than 30-minute outings, my two siblings and I had an increasingly difficult time behaving.The Buick had a long, red bench seat divided by two white stripes. This effectively divided the seat into three parts. I took the left seat, my next younger sister the right and our baby sister was left with the “hump”.Unlike today’s vehicles with headrest TVs, OUR entertainment consisted of WHO or WHAT crossed those white lines into someone else’s domain.
