Salvius Horatious – (Spy) Keeper Chad Iavolenus Tertius (Gladiator) – Bill Lucius Marius (Centurion) – John GM – Oscar The year is 149 AD and there are elements within the Roman Empire involved in a war that is all but unknown by the populace, The Shadow War. There are uncaring beings of incredible power, serviced by human minions older then time. Where their shadows reach corruption, madness and death follows. Fortunately there are those who take up the mantel for all of humanity to try and hold the line against the darkness. The populace will never hear the tales of these heroes’ sacrifices as they live their lives blissfully unaware of the darkness around them. Two such men that brave the shadows are Salvius Horatius a spy posing as a grain inspector and Lucius Marius a Roman Centurion. New to their company is retired gladiator Tertius Pellius Iavolenus who will soon come to learn that there are much darker things in the world than what lies in the hearts of men. Our investigators are summoned to the villa of General Marcus Cornelius Nasica who has need of their special talents. An agent of Dulius Costa has come from Raetia bearing ill tidings. A woman from his master’s employ went missing and when she returned home, months later she was found to be pregnant. She would not name the father and when she had the baby the birth was difficult and she died along with the child. A tale maybe not so uncommon but Sempronius goes on to tell them that the baby was “deformed” and has brought the corpse for their investigation. Upon inspection the baby appears to have the features of a Satyr. While preparing the body for cremation a generous amount of fluid is expelled from the child leading the investigators to believe that the child was probably born alive and drown.
