Inmunólogos de la Escuela de Medicina de la Universidad de Washington, en Missouri, han estudiado lo que llaman el vigor de las células B. Para ello tomaron muestras de los lóbulos linfáticos de personas vacunadas. Lo que encontraron fue una maravilla: células B pequeñitas, aún sin entrenar, agrupadas en lo que llamaron centros germinales. Las células B en estos centros mutan sus genes al azar, creando un set entero de nuevos anticuerpos. Esas células, que producen el mejor repertorio de anticuerpos, se embarcan en un proceso evolutivo que aumenta la habilidad del sistema inmunitario para atacar cualquier variante que pueda aparecer eventualmente. Los investigadores inicialmente describieron que esos centros germinales persistían por hasta 15 semanas después de la inmunización con las vacunas hechas con el ARN mensajero, mucho más tiempo que el observado jamás con las vacunas que usan las anteriores tecnologías y para otras enfermedades.
