extemporaneously Culture spa Time to go to the spa Time to purge my body, spirit, and mind Time to go to the culture spa Time to kick the system Before I go deaf, dumb, and blind All my life I tried my best To take in all that’s good I ate my fruits and vegetables Avoided processed foods But everywhere I look around There’s emptiness on display A diet of commercial feelings Fed to me every day Toxic, sweetened emotions Manipulative devotion Political snake-oil potions Sold as cures for the nation Mogging, maxxing, self-abuse Punch-me—in-the-face-for-beauty delusions Every kind of crazy notion Masquerading as anomie solutions All my life I tried my best To do what’s kind and good Said my prayers, bit my tongue Like they schooled us that we should But everywhere I turn my head regressive religion and culture rules Not rogue enough, not mean enough To qualify as “cool” Not selfish, sharp, or ruthless Not chasing power’s wake Not hollowed out and grifting Every person for my take Jesus Christ unplug the mirrors the dopamine machines Drain the noise from the bloodstream Wash eyes clean I don’t need another branding to tell me who I am I’m washing out the poison Humankind is not from a can.
