Daily Bible Reading Day 61 - Exodus 31, 32, & 33 and James 2

Today's daily bible reading comes from the book of Exodus chapters 31, 32, & 33 followed by the book of James chapter 2.   Today's reading from Exodus is a part of the story that is called "The Golden Calf". Since Moses was up on the mountain for 40 days, the people got impatient and cried out for the "old ways". Aaron in his own weakness gave into their demands and crafted for them an idol of gold in the shape of a calf. This of course angers God who threatens to destroy them all (they had just promised to keep all of his commandments!!) Moses however pleads with the LORD and He relents.    Moses then goes down the mountain and is also angered to find them having a party and worshiping this golden calf. In his anger, he threw the tablets containing God's word and shattered them....   In the book of James, the discussion about faith coupled with works is started. There are many conversations and claims that I have heard over the years about James and Romans being contradictions of one another.
