Daily Bible Reading Day 72 - Job 20, & 21 and 1st Cor. 7
from Words Of Life · host Adam Kitt
Today's daily bible reading comes from the book of Job chapters 20 & 21 followed by 1st Corinthians chapter 7. Takeaways from today's reading of 1st Cor. 7. Context, Context, Context... It's easy to read this chapter and read too many things into it and come to conclusions that may not be correct. The Apostle Paul begins this chapter with “Now concerning the things about which you wrote…”. It's obvious that the church in Corinth had some correspondence with Paul and had asked him some very specific questions, and a lot of what he says here is a direct answer, but we aren't given the specific questions so be careful. Also in vs 26, he says "I think that in view of the present distress it is good for a person to remain as he his.". Key in on "present distress" here. The Christians in the 1st century were undergoing a LOT of persecution with more to come! Lastly, Paul's motivation is also to help them to alleviate any anxieties. Taking on the responsibility of having a husband or wife in normal times can be stressful enough, but during times of great tribulation or stress, it may be a better choice to remain single.
