Dani Johnson on Grooming the Next Generation for Success

Dani Johnson, multi-level marketing expert, talked with us back in 2009 about grooming children for success. Wow! I had no idea how that work "grooming" would play years later. However, parenting is still pretty much the same. Dani, and her husband Hans, have trained many many sales people in their organization. One way they do that is by giving them "scripts" or what I call "verbatims" -- to tell people what to say. That was my favorite part of the book. She tells us as parents how to say things to our children in ways they will listen. For instance, Dani wanted her middle school aged son to wash the dishwasher. Of course, he is not very enthusiastic about that. She asks if he doesn't want to be a coach when he grows up. Yes. Then doesn't he want his team to practice? Yes. Well, then doesn't he want to practice being an adult in the family? "Okay, mom, I will be glad to to that." Looks like she has given him something to say, too. My guess is "Yes, Mom, I will be glad to do that" was once a script too. Good going. Groomed for success in dealing with his parents. And that guy is now probably a successful guy in the workforce. Maybe a highly valued coach. He didn't get kicked out or pushed down for lipping off to his boss or head coach. Groomed for success. Maybe even groomed for being a successful father, eh?
