Daniel Cassar – About Whiskies and World Travel, Passports and Passions.

Daniel is Canadian, Australian, and Maltese – and shares stories about his early days in hospitality, including his time at the Calgary Marriott Downtown Hotel and the legendary ONE18 EMPIRE Bar, home to over 300 whiskies. We talk about his move to Australia, and later to Germany – right in the middle of the pandemic – and why “Hallo, die Post ist da” (“Hello, the mail is here”) were the first German words he learned. Between wearing a DHL uniform and trying his hand as a tiler, his passion for F&B, hospitality, and great drinks never faded – and he tells how this change in perspective eventually led him back to the industry. We dive into underrated spirits, late-night bar conversations with complete strangers, and Daniel’s career shift from hotel operations to the world of sales – and how his operations background still helps him succeed today. We also talk about advice he would give his younger self, his best friend Cameron, and the encounters that have shaped him. Plus, Daniel shares his must-visit picks: the all-American burger spot in Munich that belongs on every bucket list, his favorite travel destinations, and the Marriott hotel in Barcelona you simply have to see.
