Worried for his life he tries to make a deal with Matt to secure his release. But Matt is unwilling to work with his best friend’s murderer and leaves him with a severe gash to the forehead. With no option open to him, Dex uses the opportunity to kill a guard and get himself out of prison. Hoping to mend their relationship, Wilson Fisk reveals to Vanessa that he imprisoned her lover Adam. Fisk tells her if he cannot be with her he cannot be, and gives her a choice to free or kill Adam. She chooses the gun and executes her former lover.As a reward for his loyalty Fisk promotes Daniel Blake to Deputy Mayor of CommunicationsBuck Cashman delivers an invite to Doctor Heather Glenn at Matt’s Apartment to the Mayor’s Black & White Ball fundraiser. But Matt Murdock realizes that Fisk is Heather Glenn's patient, further straining their relationship as he contests her anti-vigilante views. Matt returns to Josie's bar, and during a discussion with Cherry and Josie he realises Foggy was celebrating an impending court win the night he died so someone must have chosen to silence him using Poindexter. At the ball, Fisk privately blackmails Jack Duquesne, who is the sword-wielding vigilante Swordsman, and other socialites into supporting his port project. Commissioner Gallo speaks against officer Powell's torture of an infiltrating reporter but Powell tells him he's no longer his boss. Meanwhile BB Urich, who is aware of Fisk's involvement in her uncle Ben’s murder, asks Commissioner Gallo to help bring down Fisk and the Anti-Vigilante Task Force through whatever means possible. Also at the party Matt Murdock deduces that Vanessa hired Dex to kill Foggy and confronts her. As Fisk starts to tell Heather Glenn that Murdock is Daredevil, Poindexter arrives and shoots at Mayor Fisk. Matt jumps in front of the bullet and is severely wounded.
