David Blu is the Creator of Art of Self Regulation.   As a retired professional athlete, he understands the value of teamwork.

Who do you want on your team?

Every team has a team captain.  I offer, by listening to this show, the captain of your team, needs to be you!  Are other players necessary?  That depends on your lifestyle.  The “season” right now is a global pandemic, unless you are living with family members, you may be runnin’ solo.

Now what?

Here is a recap of some of the Lessons David Blu talked about:

Accept reality. Time to Evolve. Focus on what you can control.  Learn something new.  Develop new hobbies and habits. Practice deeper self-care. Be proactive towards health.

Can you see yourself adopting any of these lessons? Maybe a good place to start is with routines.

Routines.

David teaches the importance of routines. What do you do in the morning?  Everyone has a different routine. Sometimes the routine has to change periodically. But, don’t let missing a routine effect your day.  Hobbies that create habits can be your routine.  Is there something you’ve been wanting to do, that you have been putting off? This might be a perfect time to think about that.

David shares his morning, afternoon, and evening routines. Don’t underestimate a good night’s sleep.

Nutrition.

It’s important to understand what your body needs. Think about it, food is really the medicine that supports your body. Keep it simple. Maybe that new hobby could be preparing and cooking healthy meals.  David talks about a balanced diet and gives some specific foods to eat each day.

How does the following sound to you?  Broccoli, carrots, beets, onions, mushrooms, kale, spinach, beans, lentils, brown rice, tomatoes, and seasonal fruit?  You are probably familiar with garlic, but have you ever added turmeric to your vegetables or potatoes?  Have you ever switched out your regular salt for Himalayan sea salt? Like that old ad…”Try it, you’ll like it.”

These tips and suggestions are “peppered” throughout the show.  Pour yourself a cup of his favorite green tea, take a deep breath, stretch, and be the best player on your team!  I’ll leave you with this final lesson.

 The takeaway.  Goals vs. Intentions.

Goals are a state of doing. Goals are actions or thoughts that have a beginning and an end. You either achieve a goal or you fail to achieve your goal. Goals are the “what” and “how.”  Intentions are a state of being. Intentions are the reason for setting goals. They are the “why.” Intentions establish the energy and focus you use in order to achieve your goals. The Buddha said (not necessarily in these words) “It’s more important to focus on the journey rather than worry about the arrival.”
