Dr. David Hungerford is Chairman of the Board of Bridges to Common Ground. They are building bridges of friendship – at home and across the globe. Their aim is to inspire, educate and mobilize diverse people to a reconciling movement across the divide of cultural and religious differences. Bridges mediates by demonstration of a courageous, spiritually based model of peacemaking; interceding and effecting change at personal, local and global levels. It is little understood that Muslims, Christians and Jews share an incredible spiritual legacy that is held in common. Even while there are differences, what we share together in common is far greater than our perceived difference. They are building on those common spiritual bonds, strengthening them in order to overcome our fears. With over 38 years in Orthopedic Surgery, David is considered one of the foremost specialists in his field. He has long been recognized for his contributions to philanthropic medical organizations and causes worldwide. Both David and his wife Heide are co-chairs of CURE International’s Partners Association, an organization that establishes teaching hospitals in developing countries to serve the needs of the disabled. Though retired, David still participates in programs around the world to perform surgery in mission hospitals. David was awarded the Humanitarian Award from the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons in March of 2013. In 2009, David and Heide started a new organization dedicated to promoting reconciliation between Muslims and Christians, A Common Path Alliance (CPA). This is an ongoing effort to which they are currently dedicating their lives and their treasure. Due to complementary missions, David began serving Bridges to Common Ground in 2013, which he serves with Mark Siljander. Join us as we continue our series on building bridges of understand between Christianity and Islam on the Cosmic Citizen.
