Day 151: 1 Kings 3 and 4

1 Kings 3 – Solomon’s Wisdom Solomon becomes king and strengthens his rule by marrying Pharaoh’s daughter. He worships God but still sacrifices at “high places.” At Gibeon, God appears to Solomon in a dream and offers to give him anything he asks. Instead of riches or long life, Solomon asks for wisdom to govern the people well. God is pleased and gives him: Exceptional wisdom and discernment Riches and honor Long life (if he remains obedient) Solomon demonstrates his wisdom in the famous case of two women claiming the same baby. By proposing to divide the child, he reveals the true mother, who is willing to give up the child to save it. The people recognize that God’s wisdom is in him. 1 Kings 4 – Solomon’s Kingdom and Prosperity Lists Solomon’s officials and governors who oversee the kingdom and supply provisions. His reign is marked by: Peace and stability across Israel and neighboring lands Great wealth and abundant resources The kingdom is well-organized, with twelve districts providing supplies for the royal household. Solomon’s wisdom becomes widely known: He is described as wiser than all people of his time He speaks thousands of proverbs and songs He studies nature (plants, animals, birds, fish) Leaders from many nations visit him to hear his wisdom. Israel enjoys security and prosperity, often described as everyone living safely “under their own vine and fig tree.”
