Walk Through History: Bible Edition

Today, we’re diving into one of the most well-known and sobering stories in Scripture—David’s sin with Bathsheba. At a time when kings were meant to be out leading their armies into battle, David chose to remain in Jerusalem. One evening, from the rooftop of his palace, he saw Bathsheba bathing—a moment that would set off a chain of choices driven by temptation and desire. David had several opportunities to turn back, to course correct, and to do what was right. Yet he continued down a path that led to deep consequences. And still, despite his failures, we see something remarkable: God’s grace. David repents, and God forgives him. Out of that broken situation, Solomon is eventually born—a reminder that God can bring redemption even out of our worst mistakes.  

Welcome back to Day 132. Today, we’re stepping into a collection of Psalms that carry both beauty and raw honesty—Psalms 65 through 67, and 69 through 70. In these chapters, we move from praise and gratitude to deep cries for help, and then back again to confident trust in God. But right in the middle of all that strength and power, we also see something deeply personal. In 2 Samuel 9, David shows unexpected kindness to Mephibosheth, a member of Saul’s family. It’s a powerful picture of grace—of honoring a promise and extending mercy when it’s least expected. And in 1 Chronicles 18, we get another perspective on David’s victories, reinforcing how God was with him in every battle. Today is Day 115. What do you do when life is just life? When you don’t feel like doing your Bible study… when going to church feels heavy… when praying seems like more work than you have energy for? I want to be honest—that happens. One of the reasons I love listening to the Bible every day is because it’s low‑energy faithfulness. Some days I’m reading along, fully engaged in the Word of God. And some days, I’m just listening—letting the Word wash over me, letting it do the work. And that’s okay. It’s a beautiful way to push through those seasons when your want‑to is running low. All you have to do is press a button. So as you hit play today, remember this: You can push through the hard times. You can stay connected, even on low energy days. Today we’re reading 1 Chronicles chapters 3 through 5. Let’s begin Day 115.  

Today is Day 114 of our journey through the Psalms. We’re continuing to read through many psalms that walk us through the full landscape of faith—from struggle and lament to hope, joy, and trust. Today’s readings include Psalms 35–43, along with Psalm 49, Psalms 84 and 85, and Psalm 87. In these psalms, we hear honest cries for justice, reminders that human wealth is temporary, and beautiful declarations of God’s presence and restoration. We’re invited to place our hope not in what fades, but in the Lord who saves, renews, and dwells with His people. As you listen today, pay attention to how often the psalmists speak to their own souls—choosing trust even when circumstances haven’t changed yet. Let’s begin Day 114 in the Psalms.

Welcome back to Day 111 of our journey through Scripture. Today we step into 2 Samuel chapters 1 through 4, where a season closes and a new one begins. Saul is gone. The throne of Israel stands empty. And yet, instead of rushing to power, David pauses to grieve. He laments for Saul and Jonathan, honoring even those who once stood against him. What follows is not a smooth transition but a messy, tense unfolding—marked by divided kingdoms, broken loyalties, and human ambition. In these chapters, we see that God’s promises don’t always arrive quickly or cleanly. David has been anointed king, but the path forward is slow, painful, and filled with moral testing. Leadership is forged here—not through force, but through patience, integrity, and trust in God’s timing. As we read today, listen for this question: What does faithfulness look like when the promise is sure, but the fulfillment is delayed? Let’s dive into 2 Samuel 1–4.

The land has been promised, claimed, and now it’s being divided. We read about the inheritance of Ephraim and Manasseh, and then something unexpected happens: progress stalls. Even with victory behind them, seven tribes still haven’t taken possession of what God has already given. So Joshua challenges the people—How long will you wait to take hold of the inheritance the Lord has set before you? These chapters may seem like lists of boundaries and names, but underneath them is a powerful tension between promise and obedience, between potential and action. Joshua 16–18 asks us an honest question: What has God already placed within reach that we’re hesitating to step into? As we walk through these chapters today, we’ll explore themes of obedience, responsibility, unity, and the danger of spiritual complacency—discovering how ancient tribal allotments still speak directly into our faith today.
