The people ignored Jeremiah, rejected God’s Word, and continued living as though Jerusalem could never fall.But in Jeremiah 39, the walls are breached, the city is burned, and the people are carried into exile. Everything God warned them about became reality.God is patient, but His patience should never be mistaken for permission. Judgment delayed is not judgment canceled.Yet even amid the destruction, God’s mercy remained. Jeremiah was protected, the poor received land, and Ebed-melech was rescued because he trusted the Lord.Jerusalem fell—but God’s promises did not.The cross reminds us that God’s judgment against sin is real.
