Het was verrassend nieuws: onze gevangenissen zitten zo vol dat gedetineerden een paar dagen eerder naar huis mogen. Er is sprake van code zwart. Er staat geen cel meer leeg. Dat deed ons denken aan hoe er in de jaren zeventig werd gedacht over gevangenissen. Een tijd waarin er vragen werden gesteld bij het hele concept van gevangenissen en Huizen van Bewaring. De Bijlmerbajes in Amsterdam moest de eerste worden van een heel nieuwe manier om mensen op te sluiten: beter, menselijker en moderner. In 1978 werd de Bijlmerbajes geopend. Programmamaker Katinka Baehr maakte in 2003 bij het 25-jarige bestaan een tweeluik over de Bijlmerbajes. Voice-overs: Astrid Nauta
