Het Bruine Café: ooit had je ze voor het uitkiezen in elke stad, ieder dorp, tot in het kleinste gehucht; met Perzische kleedjes, biljart en veel donker hout. Die Bruine Kroeg zit nu in de verdrukking, en dat al decennia. Hun aantal slinkt ieder jaar, niet alleen tot verdriet van kroegtijgers met een alcohol-uitdaging, maar van de hele buurt die hun oude vertrouwde ontmoetingsplek met redelijke prijzen plaats ziet maken voor een hippe sappenbar. Wat is het nou precies wat het Bruin Café zo bijzonder maakt? En zijn ze nog te redden? En hoe dan?
