In nog geen tien jaar wist Joep Verbunt de beddenmarkt volledig op te schudden met Matt Sleeps. Zijn formule? Een direct-to-consumer-model zonder dure showrooms of wederverkopers. Klanten kiezen online, krijgen hun matras thuisbezorgd en mogen maandenlang proefslapen. Jaar na jaar groeit het bedrijf explosief in een markt die lange tijd weinig vernieuwing zag. Hoe bouw je zo’n succesverhaal op in een branche die letterlijk en figuurlijk ingeslapen was? Joep Verbunt begon in 2015 met een helder idee: de manier waarop matrassen werden verkocht moest anders. Inmiddels verkoopt hij meer dan 100.000 matrassen per jaar en blijft hij innoveren. Hoe wist hij precies hoe hij moest starten? Welke obstakels kwam hij tegen bij het opschalen en waarom koos hij ervoor om zijn bedrijf volledig zelf te financieren, zonder investeerders? Jonathan van Noord ging er met hem over in gesprek.
