De uitvinder van Twijfelachtig deel 2

Jan Ernst Matzeliger werd in 1852 als tot slaaf gemaakte geboren op plantage Twijfelachtig aan de Cotticarivier in Suriname. En hij eindigde als uitvinder in de Verenigde Staten. Zijn belangrijkste uitvinding: de zwikmachine, een apparaat in de schoenenindustrie waarmee de bovenkant van de schoen aan de zool wordt vastgespijkerd. Twintig jaar geleden maakte programmamaker Katinka Baehr een tweedelige documentaire over Matzeliger: ‘De uitvinder van Twijfelachtig’. Goed te weten: Dat het programma twintig jaar geleden is gemaakt kun je horen aan het taalgebruik. Er zitten woorden in die we nu niet meer zouden gebruiken. Na de documentaire is een interview te horen van Christianne Alvarado met kinderboekenschrijver en uitgever Gerrit Barron. Is er inmiddels meer aandacht voor Matzeliger in Suriname?
